Tips for an Easy Halloween Party: Classroom Halloween Party Games

By Pro Design Source

Halloween Party Games are an essential part to any classroom party. The kids don't really care if there is a prize at the end, they just love to be silly and play games!

Tips for Classroom Halloween Party Games:

  • Don't make them too complicated! The less rules and instructions, the better chance you will have for all of the kids to join in.
  • Small groups work better sometimes, so if possible, divide the classroom into 3 or 4 game stations. Then divide the class into that many groups and have each group rotate through the game stations.
  • Boys vs. Girls is always fun!
  • You will lose most kids attention after 10 minutes at the same activity. Try to limit each game to 10 minutes or less and then move on to another game, craft, or have snack time.

Boo is it?

Every time I have brought this game to a Classroom Halloween Party, the kids have LOVED it. I love it because it is such a cheap game to bring! It combines a balloon pop with charades and keeps everyone laughing.

Supplies you need:

  • White Balloons
  • Black Sharpie Marker
  • Slips of paper with names of characters on it (think of popular halloween costumes - Spongebob, cowboy, ballerina, Cinderella, Army man, Ninja, etc...)
  1. Insert the slips of paper into the balloons.
  2. Blow up the balloons & tie them off.
  3. Use the black marker to draw ghost faces on the balloons.

How to Play:

Divide the class into teams. Have one person from the team come up and choose a ghost and pop it. (This is where the kids start to get excited. They will wonder how to pop it, and eventually someone on the team will sit on it or something.)

Once they get the clue out of the balloon, they need to act it out. The other team gets to guess who it is.

Repeat until all 'Ghosts' are popped.

Pin the Nose on the Pumpkin

A classic game for the younger grades. This can even be used in a Preschool Classroom Halloween Party.

Easy to bring, and play. This is a great item to be put into a 'Party Bank' because it can be reused year after year.

Quiet Halloween Games

Quiet Halloween games are sometime necessary when the teacher requests you to keep the noise levels down.

  • Halloween Word Search
  • Give the kids a Halloween word like PUMPKIN, SCARECROW, or HALLOWEEN and ask them to make as many other words from those letters as they can.
  • Halloween Cross Word Puzzles

Halloween Mystery Boxes

Older grades love this game!

Have 3-4 mystery boxes that the kids must put their hands into and give them gross options to guess what it is.They boxes are really filled with food items, but the suggestion of something else will gross the kids out.

Can of Worms = wet, cold spaghetti in a can

Pickled Fingers = vienna sausages

Bowl of Eyeballs = peeled grapes

Dried ears = dried apricots

Pass the Pumpkin

The game of Hot Potato with a Halloween twist.

Gather the children to sit in a circle. Give one the pumpkin (a stuffed pumpkin will work too!), turn on your Halloween music, and have them pass the pumpkin around the circle. Whoever is holding it when the music stops is out of the game.

Halloween Boo Bingo

All ages love Bingo! Halloween Boo Bingo is great to use in a classroom if you don't have any parent helpers. It keeps the kids in their seats and the class participates as a whole. Small gifts like temporary tattoos and pencils are good prizes to use.

*Use candy corn for bingo pieces instead of the included game pieces.

Mummy Wrap

The Mummy Wrap is a race to see which team can make a Mummy the fastest.

The only supplies you need are rolls of toilet paper or crepe paper.

Divide the classroom into teams of 2-4 people. Have them choose who will be the Mummy. When you say go, they they start wrapping. First team to use all of the paper wins!

Zombie Killer

'Kill' the zombies by making them laugh in this Classroom Halloween Party Game.

No supplies are needed.

How to Play:

Have all of the kids sit at their desks or on the floor. Select one to be a 'Zombie Killer'. They will kill the Zombies by making them laugh. They can make funny faces, dance, and just act silly. Pick the class clown to get them started on this game. As each Zombie is killed they join the Zombie Killers in making the rest laugh.

Halloween Estimation Games

Estimation is a fun game and can be adapted in many ways to a Halloween Party. Here are some ideas:

  • Guess the Pumpkin Weight
  • Guess the Pumpkin Waistline
  • Guess the number of Candy Corn in a Jar
  • Use a black bag that they have to reach into without looking & have them guess the number of 'eyeballs' (ping pong balls)

Halloween Coloring Pages

It is always good to have a backup plan in case another parent forgets to bring their part of the party. Halloween coloring pages are easy to bring and can be easily turned into a coloring contest, especially for the younger grades. Sometimes you will have a kid who doesn't to participate in the party so coloring pages can be a quick and easy solution.

Another great article about Halloween. The party games you have described for school are great and make a lot of sense too, Small groups, quick games etc.

Don't like the boo it game though lol. I am terrified of balloons and always have been even as a child. It is the sudden noise that gets me, so a few bad memories of my own school parties.

The Estimation games are my favourites, nice and quiet and the kids would learn while having fun

viking305- LOL, the Boo game does get the kiddos riled up. They think it is fun because they don't usually get to make loud noises like popping balloons in school. I like to have both kinds of games in my plan so that if the teacher isn't favorable to louder games, I can pull out the quiet ones.

humagaia - ooohhhh, a ghoul would certainly elicit lots of shrieks and squeals.

Which reminds me - if you are a volunteer helper, kids loooovveee to see the parents in a costume too. ;)

LeanMan - I agree, but I expect that if you are a teacher and have had to hang out with a bunch of kids who just want to go Trick or Treating, you might not!

I love seeing the kids go crazy for the Halloween Games though.
